Our work lives are a web of social relationships. Often these relationships do not function as planned or expected. Conflict is a natural recurring phenomenon that can be effectively managed. This program examines several issues relating to conflict and conflict resolution.
OBJECTIVES
- Examine the types and sources of conflict.
- Learn methods of conflict resolution and problem solving.
- Explore the nature of language and its role in conflict resolution.
- Identify their own personal style of conflict resolution.
- Understand the impact of attitudes on conflicting situations.
- Learn how to change conflict resolution attitudes and skills.
APPROPRIATE FOR: All employees involved in situations where it is important to manage conflict constructively.
RECOMMENDED GROUP SIZE: 16-24
DURATION: Eight (8) hours
METHODS
- Lecturettes, simulations, paper/pencil instruments, and videotaped review of role-plays.
- Visuals include handouts, flip charts, overhead transparencies, and video taping/playback.
RESULTS
- Develop the ability to constructively deal with conflicting relationships.
- Reduce tension and anxiety that conflict cause in the work team or department.
