COACHING AND COUNSELING

This program is based on the assumption that your people have the potential to contribute greatly to the accomplishment of personal and organizational goals. The program design details the step-by-step approach to coaching and counseling the employee who has a problem related to the performance of the job or when a behavior or attitude of the employee is troubling you or your organization.

OBJECTIVES

• Learn to distinguish between coaching and counseling.
• Identify performance problems.
• Opportunities to assess the critical nature of performance concerns.
• Learn how to plan for the coaching sessions.
• Learn how to change or redirect employee's behavior toward improved performance.
• Practice how to maintain an employee's self-esteem during the coaching/counseling exchange.
• Learn effective counseling resources and techniques.

APPROPRIATE FOR: All supervisors or team leaders.

RECOMMENDED GROUP SIZE: 12-16

DURATION: Eight (8) hours

METHODS

• Lecturettes, role-plays, simulations and exercises will be used to present the program content.
• Use of handouts, overhead transparencies, flip charts, and video taped review of simulated situations.

RESULTS

• Participants will have a basic understanding of the characteristics of effective coaching and counseling.
• Be equipped to discuss sensitive issues with those they supervise or lead.
