Many organizations promote workers with the best performance into supervision without any knowledge of their supervisory ability or without training in effective supervisory techniques. This program will address the skills to be an effective supervisor.
OBJECTIVES
- Examine the role of effective communication in supervision.
- Evaluate supervisory style.
- Identify potential conflict situations between employees.
- Understand the distinction between managing the task elements of the job and managing the relationships.
- Understand the impact of their own managerial style.
- Examine the role of motivation in the work place.
- Understand the difference between delegation and direction giving.
- Examine the interactive process between manager and subordinate that is critical to the development of the subordinate.
- Examine the effective methods of appraising the performance of employees.
APPROPRIATE FOR: All employees with supervisory responsibility.
RECOMMENDED GROUP SIZE: 8-12
DURATION: Eight (8) hours
METHODS
- Lecturettes, small group discussion, role-plays, simulations, case studies.
- Visuals include flip charts, overhead transparencies, and handouts.
RESULTS
