Everyone has experienced the need to accomplish a difficult task by influencing the behavior of others or ourselves. The most effective way to accomplish this task is to incorporate goals or objectives, expected behavior, feedback and reward. This program establishes the necessity of this activity and provides helpful suggestions on how to be more effective in one's goal setting process.
OBJECTIVES
- Learn the benefits of goal setting for many activities.
- Learn how to structure goals in terms of quantity, quality, and time.
- Learn the relationship between resources, responsibilities, and priorities.
- Practice writing and reviewing goals and objectives.
- Discuss the appropriate level of difficulty for the goal setting process.
- Learn the need for participation and mutual goal setting as individuals begin to work together with others as a team.
- Understand the need for goal/objective flexibility.
- Understand the role of the self-fulfilling prophecy in the goal setting process.
APPROPRIATE FOR: All employees with control or input into their own work related activities.
RECOMMENDED GROUP SIZE: 16-24
DURATION: Four (4) hours
METHODS
- Lecturettes, group discussion, role-plays, and practice goal setting will be incorporated into the program.
- Visuals will include handouts, overhead transparencies, and flip charts.
RESULTS
- Program participants will understand the need for effective goal setting and have a basic ability to set performance-based goals for their individual work activities.
