INTERPERSONAL COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Communication skills are a necessity for success in any organization. This program is designed to be of benefit to all individuals who interact on a regular basis with others, whether in supervisory or individual contributor roles.

OBJECTIVES

• Assess their own interpersonal capabilities and identify areas for needed improvement
• Understand the need for interpersonal skills in a team or work group situation.
• Explore the role of self-disclosure and risk taking as a part of the team building process.
• Assess their own self-concept and self-esteem.
• Understand the impact of listening and assess their own capabilities.
• Understand the role of defensive behavior as a barrier to effective communication.
• Evaluate his/her own style of dealing with conflict and be exposed to a series of positive methods of handling interpersonal conflict.

RECOMMENDED GROUP SIZE: 16-24

DURATION Two (2) days

METHODS

• Lecturettes will be used to present some information.
• Utilization of self-assessment instruments, simulations, role-plays, and exercises.
• Visuals used will include flip charts, overhead projections, and distributed materials.

RESULTS

• Participants will be able to identify their own interpersonal development needs and recognize these needs in their own behavior.
• Individuals will exhibit improved behavior and be inspired toward continuous improvement of their work relationships.
• Participants will have a thorough understanding of available resources for continuous improvement.
